Steps for Kids is the annual fundraiser put on by Lutherwood to raise awareness and funds for children’s mental health programs and services. This amazing yearly event brings together Lutherwood staff, volunteers, friends, family and community partners. Luther Village on the Park is operated by Lutherwood, so Luther Village staff, volunteers, and residents are also a part of this important fundraiser. This year Steps for Kids took place on Sunday, May 3 at Lutherwood's Children's Mental Health Centre and surrounding areas in north Waterloo.
Each year Luther Village on the Park runs its own Steps for Kids walk in nearby Waterloo Park, a couple days before the main event. This allows our residents to walk more conveniently while also supporting fundraising efforts.
A reflection on the Luther Village walk from Christine Siopiolosz, Luther Village site coordinator:
“What a great group of people we had gather on this day!! Staff, residents, teachers and youth from our children’s mental health programs joined together and walked through beautiful Waterloo Park on this bright sunny Friday afternoon to raise $3892.00 for Children’s Mental Health. We would like to thank all who participated, companies who gave donations, staff who volunteered at the event and Luther Village Food Services who donated the refreshments for all their hard work in making this event a great one!”
Here is a note from Sandra Villarraga, Development Officer with the Foundation, and event organizer:
“The Steps for Kids event was a success! Thank you to the incredible support and generosity from our community. This year over 680 friends stepped, and stood up, against the stigma of children’s mental health. So many people volunteered, fundraised and came together raising a record of $118,000. These funds will support the specialized programs that are a critical part of the treatment plan for the children we serve at Lutherwood. This event just keeps getting better and better and we are so grateful for all the people who contributed to its success.”
And, some words from W.R. (Bill) Allen Chair, Lutherwood Board of Governors:
“The members of the Lutherwood Board have a first-hand appreciation for the impact that those dollars will have on furthering our services for children in our care. Congratulations on a tremendous accomplishment!”
We at Luther Village are so proud to work within such an incredible organization as Lutherwood, and to support the important work they do strengthening the lives of people in our community by providing mental health, employment, housing and family support services to more than 24,000 people annually in Waterloo Region and Wellington County.
