As the lockdown restricts dining at restaurants and we grow tired of cooking the same meals, we need to get creative to keep things interesting. We have learned this past year that keeping our minds active and trying new things is essential to our overall health and wellbeing.

Our MSW Intern Stephanie has compiled a list of alternative meal options available within the Region of Waterloo to support older adults. Options range from ready-made meals, to “do it yourself” boxes complete with recipes and corresponding ingredients. Also included are grocery delivery services offering incredible take-out options.

Take Out Meal Options

Many restaurants have partnered with companies to have their take-out orders delivered right to your door.

Uber Eats is easy to use! You can order right from the website by just inputting your address and following the step-by-step process. Make sure you also share your unit number & special instructions for accurate delivery. (www.ubereats.com/ca)

They offer an app for your phone as well which you can download from the app store just search ‘Uber Eats’

*If you can pick up take out directly from the restaurant, they do prefer this as they pay a lot for these delivery services.

Local shops continue to innovate and expand their offerings to better serve their neighbors. For our Life Lease residents, the Village Shoppe continues to offer hot take-out meals (including our incredible homemade soups made from scratch), freshly prepared frozen options, and essential groceries. For our Sunshine Centre residents all of their meals are provided and they have no complaints with the creativity and exciting options available (we can all be a little jealous of that during this time).

If we have learned anything during this past year, it is that we have to find ways to keep life exciting and seek moments of joy while continuing to keep ourselves and others safe.

We hope you find these resources useful.

Happy Eating!
