October brought an exciting mix of celebrations, learning opportunities, and community adventures throughout the Village.
Oktoberfest Celebration
Residents embraced the spirit of the season at our lively Oktoberfest Celebration, featuring music from the Transylvania Hofbrau Band and a special visit from Onkle Hans.
Learning Presentations
Residents continued to engage in lifelong learning through a variety of informative presentations. Topics included:
practical healthcare advocacy strategies through The Waiting Room Revolution,
important information on wills and estate planning presented by Miller Thomson
and our Village Safety Series, which focused on fire safety and emergency preparedness.
We also welcomed representatives from Hospice of Waterloo Region and a guest speaker from the Parkinson's Mobility Lab, who shared valuable insights and resources.
We especially enjoyed learning about Historic Behaviours Through Artifacts in Ancient Temples from our very own resident Michele from the Emerging Ideas Group.
Local Outings
October offered many opportunities to explore the community and beyond. Popular outings included:
a visit to Martin's Family Fruit Farm with lunch at the Olde Heidelberg Restaurant Tavern
nature walks through Schmidt Woods
and a scenic Hockley Valley Tour with a stop for lunch.
Residents also enjoyed an educational visit to the St. Mary's Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame, followed by lunch in Tavistock, along with several other excursions throughout the month.
Baking the Flavours of Fall
In Memory Care, our Baking Club celebrated the flavours of fall by creating delicious homemade treats, including cinnamon rolls and pumpkin tarts. Residents also enjoyed seasonal outings to the Spirit Halloween Store, Benjamin Tree Farm & Pumpkin Patch, and a relaxing country drive to take in the beautiful autumn scenery.
Our community kitchen was buzzing with goodies as we baked homemade bread, apple crumble and made pumpkin pie smoothies and stove top popcorn.
Halloween Fun!
The month concluded with several memorable Halloween events, including preparing treat bags for the big day, Trick-or-Treating with KW Moms and Toddlers and our much-anticipated Halloween Party filled with costumes, good music and festive fun.
Friendly competition was on display during our Creepy Crokinole Tournament, while creativity shone through at our pumpkin carving activities and preparations for Halloween.
Village Workshops
We've had a wonderful response to the new Heart Conditions Exercise session led by Nancy and other fitness workshops are currently in the works including one with a focus on arthritis and related conditions.
We're looking forward to winter and holiday festivities in November and December!
